Thank you Ted for your post on Mike. Mike & I were best friends since meeting in wood shop @ Wilshire Jr High.  Our families were close and mourned his passing as a war hero.  I visited his site at Vietnam memorial in Washington.

Michael McGerty and I were altar boy partners at St Mary's Church in Fullerton. As the oldest of the active altar boys, we often were assigned 6:30 Mass on Sundays, when the congregation was small and there was no sermon. Or we would be assigned to the 10:00 AM service, which was a High Mass, which was formal and demanded more of us. Mike became my friend. I learned of his passing when I visited the Viet Nam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. It was a sad surprise.

Mike and I had classes at Wilshire Jr. High before going across the street to FUHS.  We had numerous

classes togeather there also, and were both Latin Club members.  I learned of Mike's death while attending

the 10 year anniversary just  before being assigned to Osan Air Base, South Korea.  While I was assigned to

the National Security Agency just outside of Washington D.C. I made it a point to visit "The Wall".  When

I found Mike's name I stood back and viewed his name and the thousands of my other brothers and sisters

who served our country.  I can only hope that the movie and television actors and actresses who take pleasure

in demeaning this country, the music industry who write songs defaming our  nation, the sports "heros", and the

high school and college "students" who take pleasure in rioting and burning the nations symbol, but are

more than willing to feed at the trough of unbelievable monitary greed provided by the poor and  middle class,

one day realize that thier insurmountable insignificants pales in comparison to the last full measure of duty that

the men and women of the United States Armed Forces displayed while defending our flag, and the

country they loved.  May the names of those individuals enshrined on the memorial, remain in the hearts and

minds of all the citizens who love and respect this country.  Rest in Peace Michael, you are sorely missed.

MSgt Walter "Wally" Cullen, USAF, (Retired)
