Where do I start? Gus and I were kinda of joined at the hip. We both were Christians, he (and I belive he) were members of the First Lutheran Church of Fullerton. We both loved Basketball, he excelled as a player at FUHS and since my Dad and I had a falling out early on, I tanked at sports and left our home early. Gus's Family owned the McAuly and Sutters Mortuaryy, my Family were relatives of the Peek Family Funeral Home in Wesminister, CA. Before we graduated up to FUHS, I had a News Paper Route for the Santa Ana Register. This route took me in front of their Mortuary every day. Since this was the end of my delivery route, I would stop and Gus and I would shoot basketball hoops. His hoop/net was bolted over the garage of the room/garage/storage room they stored all the caskets in. Some times it was open, some times it was closed, but it never effected our shooting rythm, we understood the living and the deceased and the need for their care.

In 1969 at age 48 my father James Henry Peek (FUHS class of 1939) died of Luekimia while he was in Saint Jude Hospital. He and my mother were living in Placentia at the time. I was living in South Laguna. My mother and I spent the last evening of my Fathers life with him, he was looking alert. I drove back to South Laguna after visiting hours ended. I went to bed, and just 3 hours later, I received a phone call from my mothers neighbor who told me to drive back as my Father had passed and my Mother, younger brother and sister were hysterical. I called Gus not thinking how early it was, Gus answered and told me he would go pick up my Dad and take care of the preperations for his funeral. He told me he was amazed how young and healthy he looked. Gus was a professional and a dear freind. Many years later Gus did the same for the passing of my Mother, Peggy Virginia Cypher Peek.

Just a few years ago, Gus and I connected with emails, talked politics and so much more. My wife and I made a request to have he and his son take care of our's and our 5 pets cremation remains to be spread in Yosemite. Sadly, Gus got ill and passed on. I miss him and remembrer what a fine man he became.

R.I.P. my freind. May God comfort and protect you and your Family.

Terry and Janice Peek
