Leonard A. Dickey - Class Of 1959 VIEW PROFILE

Class of 1959
Deceased Classmate:  Leonard Dickey
I just received a letter from Leonard Dickey’s wife (Margaret Johnson) that he died on June 10, 2020. He had been in poor health for the past ten years from numerous maladies. As a classmate at FUHS, he was an excellent student and a terrific runner. His career was spent as a high school teacher and college administrator (Claremont College). After retiring, he became a seasonal park ranger for 17 years at Sequoia National Park.

I knew Leonard from kindergarten through high school. My last contact with him was in 1959 on the track team where I ran the low hurdles and (I think) he ran the 880. We were cub scouts and boy scouts way back. We were not close friends, but I remember him as a nice guy.

My folks moved to Fullerton when I was in elementary school, and Leonard lived a few houses down the street from me on Fern Dr. In pre-teen years we often were part of the neighborhood gang that played baseball in the vacant lot next to our house. Also played in the gully in the open area behind his house.

I knew Leonard at FUHS from social events but primarily from Track where we were both ran in distance events.  Last talked with him at some length at the 60th class reunion of '59.  Very nice guy!
