Mildred M. Porter (Burdorf) - Class Of 1916

Mildred Burdorf was born Sept. 27, 1898 and died January 3, 2005 at the Quaker Gardens Retirement Home in Stanton, CA. 

        She lived in three different centuries and was one of the oldest, long time residents of Orange County. Memorial Service will be at the McAulay and Wallace Mortuary, 902 No. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, CA 92832 Sat. Jan. 15th at1:30 pm. The burial will be at the Loma Vista Memorial Park in Fullerton following the service. Those wishing to contribute to a memorial fund to honor Mildred may send gifts to the Fullerton First Methodist Church, 114 No. Pomona Ave., Fullerton, CA 92832. She was the longest term member of the church as well as the Fullerton Women's Club and North Orange County YMCA .

         Her only daughter, Barbara Heggem, died in 1999, Mildred is survived by her son Donald Burdorf age 83 and his wife Fran of Newport Beach, son-in-law Dwile Heggem and wife Ceora of Vancouver, WA, six grand children, Kathy Duff, Claudia Locascio, Sandi Heggem, Liz (Burdorf) Black, Susan (Burdorf) DeShelly, and Chris Burdorf. 

         She was also survived by nine great grandchildren, Malcolm Burdorf, Lydia Burdorf, Lindsay Duff, Ryan Duff, Alison Duff, Joe Locascio, Amy Robertson, Stephanie Robertson, and Michael Travis Wickman, and her sister-in-law, Barbara McProud of Fullerton. 

         Mildred and her husband, Dick, were married in 1919 after meeting at a church youth group several years earlier. Dick died in 1975. 

         Mrs. Burdorf moved to Fullerton in 1913 and graduated from Fullerton Union High School in 1917. She then attended Los Angeles Normal School which is now called UCLA. Her many activities include membership in a Fullerton Book Club, Church Quilting Club, Church Circle, Fullerton Trailer Club and Camera Club. Her husband and she were the leaders of the church youth group for many years. During the second world war and several years after she was a volunteer with the Red Cross.
